The hospital pharmacy is a clinical unit, of an administrative and economic nature, managed exclusively by a pharmacist, and which has a hierarchical link with the hospital administration, and integrative collaboration with other sectors. The purpose of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee is to standardize medications that will be used in the hospital environment. The purpose of medication standardization is to select drugs that meet the therapeutic needs of individuals treated by the hospital, taking into account the local social and epidemiological profile and that objectively contribute to the selection, acquisition, storage, distribution, and inventory management, and contribute to the rationalization of medications, considering costs. Medication selection is defined as a continuous, interactive, multidisciplinary and participatory process that determines and ensures the levels of access to medications required for health care. Pharmaceutical care, in the hospital context, encompasses activities related to logistics, compounding, quality control, pharmaceutical care and clinical pharmacy. This study aims to highlight the importance of choosing medications in hospital pharmacies, taking into account the prices, the preparation of a standardized list of medications, and the importance of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee.
